Who you are

A BSc/MSc student in CS, EE or a related field, with a strong coding skills in Python.

What you will do

Join the algorithm team who uses images of different modalities to solve fine-grained, few shot, multi task and multi label classifications in supervised and un/semi/self-supervised manners.

Our algorithms team is responsible for all of the computer vision challenges the company is facing, tackling complex real-world indoor localization problems that directly affect the company’s success. You’d be joining a team of experienced researchers leading the research and implementation of our algorithmic engine analysing large streams of visual data from construction sites, together with 3D models.

What you'll do:

  • Face challenges in areas of SLAM/SFM and localization for indoor environments,using 3D computer-vision algorithms to meet unmatched accuracy and reliability demands.
  • Own the complete research cycle,from requirements to design, implementation and benchmarking, producing innovative solutions for core company problems.
  • Be part of a vibrant team of bright and experienced engineers bringing the construction industry into the digital age.

Requirements:

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup working environment.
  • 3+ years of experience researching computer-vision problems.
  • MSc. in CS/EE/Similar departments.
  • Proficiency in python.
  • Experience working with 3D data, including SLAM/SFM, localization or 3D-Reconstruction.
  • Deep theoretical and hands-on knowledge in the fields of deep learning for computer vision problems – advantage.
  • Experience with deep learning libraries (TensorFlow/PyTorch) – advantage.
  • Good vibes and a sense of humor – must.

Goal-driven grasping refers to the task of picking a particular object and placing it in some target location and orientation. Some form of visual representation (images, point clouds, mesh files) of the object is assumed to be available and can be used for the grasp prediction from real-time images from the scene. Motivating examples for this setup could be picking an assembly part and placing it in a desired pose for assembly or picking some product and placing it on a shelf or in some container.

The goals of the internship:

  • Survey relevant papers and summarize settings, pros and cons
  • [Recommended] Pick most relevant approach and experiment with code
  • Propose a novel approach for improving the pick and place
  • Carry out experiments in simulation or real robot to validate approach
  • Write a report summarizing the work and results.

Qualifications:

Either:

Learning towards a PhD OR MsC in CS/EE/ME/IE/etc.

Holds PhD or MsC in CS/EE/ME/IE/etc. and wants to join our team as junior researcher.

Knowledge in Machine Learning, and at least one of the following: Reinforcement learning, Computer Vision.

Strong competency in Python and Deep Learning frameworks.

Very good SW engineering capabilities! Doing good robotics requires good engineering!

Job Description

General Motors Israel R&D Labs is an applied research center focusing on creating and evaluating innovative concepts for future vehicles. Researchers at this center conduct independent research as well as collaborative projects with colleagues at GM, with academic and industrial partners, in Israel and abroad.

The Computer Vision and Perception group is performing research and concept development for automotive-relevant perception tasks. The main research goal is to advance perception capabilities for Autonomous Driving using multi-sensor (e.g. Cameras, Lidars and Radars) data as input. The research focus is at advancing state-of-the-art deep learning algorithms in all aspects including accuracy, robustness, data dependency, computational requirements and explainability for a variety of relevant perception tasks.

About the role:

A senior researcher in the group will work closely with engineering colleagues to identify future challenges and possible solutions. He is expected to develop a wide and long-term perspective of his research field and propose a principled research agenda. He can work on either applied research focused on a specific application or more fundamental research with potential outcomes for a variety of tasks. He will also continue being a contributor to the wider research community by collaborating with academic researchers and publishing papers.
